Evidence

College of Dental Medicine (CODM) and College of Medicine (COM) will administer the first-ever DEIB demographic survey to our faculty/staff to determine the makeup of who’s on campus and develop appropriate programming to increase inclusivity and belonging. This data is currently not being collected. The COM/CODM needs this for accreditation. We also believe this will make us a stronger institution overall.

Goal

The goals of this project are two-fold. First, demographic data on staff and faculty in the targeted colleges are required for accreditation purposes. Second, securing the data will allow the colleges and the university as a whole to develop initiatives and programming focused on inclusion and belonging that are reflective of the identities of the university's staff and faculty.

Lessons Learned
  • Having the Deans' buy-in is often a key factor in the success of any initiative within an academic setting. Their support can facilitate resource allocation, promote collaboration, and enhance the overall credibility of the project.
  • Working on this fellowship helped the COM and CODM build relationships that will continue to benefit both colleges.
